Terms of Use

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your use of the Building Unity mobile app and website (the “Service”), provided by Building Unity (“we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the Service. Therapist and practice accounts must be held by individuals or organizations legally authorized to provide the services they describe, and are subject to our review and approval.

2. Your account

• Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
• Keep your password confidential and your device secure. You are responsible for activity under your account.
• Only pair with a partner who has agreed to share a space with you, and only share invite codes with people you intend to connect with.
• Tell us promptly at kamran@kamrancreation.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service to harass, threaten, monitor, control, or harm another person, including your partner;
• access someone else’s account or pair with someone without their knowledge;
• post content that is unlawful, abusive, or infringes someone else’s rights;
• impersonate a licensed professional or misrepresent your credentials;
• attempt to reverse engineer, disrupt, overload, or bypass the security of the Service, or access it by automated means;
• use the Service, including its AI features, to create content that is illegal or harmful; or
• use the Service in violation of any applicable law.

4. Not medical, mental health, or therapy advice

The Service provides general relationship-wellness tools, exercises, assessments, and educational content. It does not provide medical, psychological, or legal advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and using it does not create a therapist–client or other professional relationship with Building Unity. Assessments are for reflection only and are not clinical instruments. Always seek the advice of a qualified professional with questions about your health or relationship, and never delay seeking help because of something in the app.

5. AI-generated content

Some features use artificial intelligence (provided by OpenAI) to generate reflections, conversation starters, date night ideas, encouragement, and homework explanations. AI output is generated automatically, may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate for your situation, and does not reflect the views or advice of Building Unity or any therapist. It is not professional advice. Use your own judgment, and don’t rely on AI content for decisions about your health, safety, or legal matters. How AI requests are handled is described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Therapists and practices

Therapists and practices on Building Unity are independent professionals and organizations. They are not employees or agents of Building Unity, and we do not supervise, endorse, or take responsibility for their professional services, advice, or conduct. Any therapeutic relationship, including fees, scheduling, clinical decisions, and professional obligations, is solely between you and your therapist. Our approval of a therapist account is not a guarantee of qualifications or quality of care. Therapists who use the Service agree to follow applicable law and professional rules, and to access couple data only as permitted by the couple’s consent.

7. Your content

You own the content you create in the Service. You grant us a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, and display your content only as needed to operate and provide the Service to you, your partner, and anyone you choose to share it with (such as a connected therapist). You are responsible for the content you share and confirm you have the right to share it.

8. Our intellectual property

The Service, including its design, text, exercises, assessments, graphics, logos, and software, is owned by Building Unity or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for its intended purpose. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the Service except as allowed by these Terms or by law. “Building Unity” and our logo may not be used without our permission.

9. Fees

The Service is currently free. If we introduce paid features, such as premium plans or content packs, we will show pricing clearly before you buy, and purchases made through the App Store will be governed by Apple’s terms in addition to any terms we present at the time.

10. App stores

Google Play

If you downloaded the app from Google Play, your use is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these Terms, is not responsible for the app or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. Anything purchased through Google Play is refunded by Google under its own policies.

Apple App Store

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies to your use of the app, together with these Terms. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content, has no obligation to provide maintenance or support, and is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms with the right to enforce them against you.

11. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time (see Delete your account). We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or to protect users or the Service. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and governing terms) will survive.

12. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE, OR THAT IT WILL IMPROVE YOUR RELATIONSHIP OR ACHIEVE ANY PARTICULAR RESULT. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BUILDING UNITY WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, GOODWILL, OR PROFITS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, THE CONDUCT OF ANY OTHER USER OR THERAPIST, OR ANY AI-GENERATED CONTENT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM OR US$50. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

14. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify and hold Building Unity harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the Service, your content, or your violation of these Terms or of anyone else’s rights.

15. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will update the date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

16. General

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Service. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent.
